Hog Pit BBQ – One Bone Short of Best of Lincoln
Author: Buffmeat // Category: BBQ, Buffalo Wings, Unique to Lincoln
We went over to a friends house Saturday night to watch the Heisman and stopped off at the Hog Pit BBQ on 14th and Superior for some take out.
First the good:
- Probably the best brisket I’ve had in a long time. It was machine sliced really thin, but we got a healthy portion for around $9.
- The side dishes. Normally this doesn’t matter to me at a BBQ place, but this was something to call out. We had the Mac ‘n Cheese, Baked Beans, Green Bean Casserole, Potato Salad and corn bread. All were awesome! The Mac ‘n Cheese was ridiculously good!!
- The service. The new owner was working and incredibly nice while I waited for my food. He knew his stuff and wanted me to let him know what I thought.
My Constructive Criticism:
- In addition to the brisket, we got a full slab of baby back ribs. They were cooked well and cut into individual bones. The only thing with our rack was the rub was still very grainy on the bones. It tasted great, but we may have gotten some with a little too much rub that kind of clumped on the ribs.
Truthfully that wasn’t enough for all of us to think it was anything but great BBQ!! Please visit this location and help support a local BBQ joint. Please don’t disgrace Lincoln BBQ like this article did. Paul’s is still my favorite, but as a resident of North Lincoln, the Hog Pit will see a lot of me!!

I am the owner of the Hog pit. I appreciate the positive feed back. I would like to let everyone know I have introduced a new baby back rib we call the ” Meaty Baby ” It is awsome every one who has tried it say I must keep doing it. Ive added smoke pulled bbq chicken to the menu this is my favorite. Also I want to let people know that I dont deliver at the current time for several reasons, I just bought the buisness and delivery is a big expense with insurance and such. Our pizza, I like to think is worth the trip for carry out I have found a dough I think is the best. The sauce is old neros, the cheese is awsome. I’ve added some any time specials to the menu. that are in my opinion very great deals Our number is 438-6442

Hey Scott, Hank the controls guy from your first year apprentice class over at ABC. Was happy to hear what you’ve got going on. Can’t wait to stop in with my new (first and only) wife and give it a try. Take care man, ’till we see you.

We ordered 2 racks of ribs for our guest we were having over for dinner. Very disappointed! The meat was very tough and dry, even though we ordered the ‘wet’ ribs. The service was rude, employees seemed annoyed to have people waiting in line and that they were busy! Strange, i thought having customers is a good thing. I will not recommend this place.

sarah, I am scott the owner and if you had that bad of an experience with my ribs I appologize.
I do however take offence when you say the employees are rude, If this is the case please come in and talk to me I am there everyday and night mostly and if you were treated rudely I will definitly address the issue please let me no what nite this happened. I have had a a lot of good comments on the ribs from other people. If you are a lagit customer and not a basher I would love for you to come back and say “Hi I am sarah” so we can work this out.

On our way to Missouri on Sunday, we went through Lincoln. Stopped at the Hog Pit BBQ & Pizza on 14th and Superior. I had the Riblet Basket w/steak fries and the coleslaw. and my husband had the Smoked Pulled BBQ Chicken dinner w/coleslaw and green bean casserole. The chicken was very tasty and tender. The riblets were out of this world. I couldn’t get enough of them. The coleslaw and Green Beans were definitely Home Style cooking. Tuesday night on our way home, we stopped again and tried the German Pizza at the recomendation of the owner. Very delicious, I believe the crust was the best I have ever had. We ordered a 1/2 rack of baby back ribs and 1/2 rack of St. Louis ribs to go. We still had another 2 1/2 hour drive home. I warmed them the next day in the oven. Very tender and moist.
Can’t wait for another trip to Lincoln to try some of the other menu items.
The young waitress was very friendly as was the owner, Scott, who was very busy in the kitchen but took time out to visit with us.
I will definitely recommend the Hog Pit BBQ to everyone.
