Read in the Journal Star’s Bizz Blog that Roost has closed. Visited red9 for a meeting today and learned they have changed their menu to serve more bar-type food. Didn’t memorize the offerings, but I recall seeing a cheeseburger and tuna tartare as two of the new items.

Bennigans Closes, Capital City Grill Opens

I was sad to see in the paper today that Bennigan’s officially closed.  They were in my hometown many years ago and although it couldn’t be further from my house in Lincoln, I still made it every so often.  There will be no better Monte Cristo in my opinion.

On another note, I took a walk over lunch and noticed that the Capital City Grill is now opened in the doomed Haymarket building.  I looked at their menu and it appears to me (just my opinion) that they are taking aim at Bread & Cup.  Very unique dishes and some different appetizers.  I’m sure we’ll give it a try, has anyone else?

Two Twins needs another set.

Visited the new Two Twins Cafe a few weekends ago and needless to say was not impressed at all.

We arrived on a Sunday to a packed house, which is usually a good sign.  After a 45 minutes wait we sat down only to hear that they were out of biscuits, hash browns and blueberry pancakes.  Not off to a good start but it happens!
My daughters ordered a drink one milk and one orange juice, when the waitress brought their drinks back they both received chocolate milk, strike 2.
Most of the breakfast items on the menu came with hash browns or breakfast rice, then your choice of bacon or sausage, so when a member of our party asked the waitress if she would be able to get double bacon since they were out of hash browns, you would think the answer would of been "of course" but…. the answer we received was "well… that will be an up charge.  We have breakfast rice on the menu, try it you will like it.  I will bring it out to you"  Strike 3
After we ordered we waited about 45 more minutes until the waitress came over to tell us that they lost our ticket.  Again… these things happen so we understood.  We asked her if she could just bring out something for our two girls who had already been there for an hour and a half and were starving.  She asked what she could bring out and we replied with a cinnamon roll for them to share.  We she came back she brought chocolate chip muffins for each of them.  Strike 4.  Trust me… this is not the end of it.
The assistant manager then came over to find out how things were, when we told her the mistakes from the waitress and how we were treated with asking for substitutions of food, we just got the attitude that it was our fault.  The owner then came over we explained things to her, she first told us that they were reviewed in the paper that weekend and so it was really busy and they didn’t expect that.  Which any restaurant owner in Lincoln knows that when that review comes out the weekend following is always busy. She then took the assistant manager outside, where she was in plain view of us, to yell at her and made her cry.  When the owner came back in, she proceeds to go around the table and ask everyone how she could make their day or if she had made their day.  She even made it a point to ask our 6 year old, which really did not know what to say.  Again we had the attitude that it was our fault for the experience and we walked out of there feeling like we were to blame.

We understand the new restaurants go through a transition period but whatever happened to the philosophy that the customer is always right.  If you are trying to build your business, make sure your customers are the number one priority.
