We made it out to the fair on Saturday. This was the first time ever, that it was not over 100 degrees and it made the experience wonderful. Like many, I’m kind of sad to see it go, after so many years of not supporting it. But on to the food.
- I had a corn dog right inside the gate. I was a little confused by the large and super version, but they were still cooking the super at this time, so I just had the large. It was great, but $5 seemed a little high. I shared this with my 6 and 2 year old, so I actually didn’t get a lot of it. (Running total – $5)
- Blue Raspberry Lemonade. Also from the corn dog stand, I needed something to drink. I was not disappointed, but it was a $6 drink. ($11)
- I heard about them over the years, but all I wanted was the beef sundae. The booth appeared like an oasis and just called me home. This was by far the greatest meal in a bowl I’ve ever had. Could have used a little more meat, but the mashed potatoes were perfect. Well worth the $6 ($17)
- Puckhead was with us for most of the day and talked us into a deep fried peach. I’m not afraid to deep fry anything, but this just didn’t seem right. Let me say this, if you make it to the fair, you have to at least get this!! I was pleasantly surprised with this $4 delight ($21)
- I wanted to try something different towards the end of the day, but I was drawn back to the corndog stand. I’m sure this is a no-no in fair etiquette, but I hit the corn dogs again, this time getting my super $6 ($27)
- By the end of the day, I didn’t want anything else that was deep fried. I did have a touch of a sweet tooth, so I opted for the root beer float. I felt sorry for the guy working the booth as the bees seemed to like the root beer and ice cream over-spill. It was a great way to end the day $6 ($33)
In summary, I had a great day, but ended up taking more than the recommended daily amount of Tums that night. I have not had heartburn that bad in a long time. But it was worth it!!! All $33 of it.

Got to check out Bread & Cup for lunch today. Yes, I realize I couldn’t be further behind the times and that anyone reading this has probably already been there, but I don’t get a lot of chances to venture out for lunch. I follow their blog and sampled some food earlier this year thus prompting me to make the trip today.
Order counter was maybe a little confusing–I think we cut in front of a guy that was kind enough not to say anything (thank you!) Nice, clean space with lots of space for outdoor dining. Went off the regular menu for the Jerk Pork sandwich, a tasty shredded pork sandwich with the meat marinated in a Caribbean spice blend with pineapple/red pepper salsa on sourdough bread. So very good with a lot of flavor, not messy and filling.
Wanted the black bean soup, but opted for the sandwich. Wish I could have done both but then would have passed out from food coma.

I’ve got a family member that needed to stay overnight in the hospital, so I’m here at 11:30pm writing a review about the food I’ve had today here at St. Elizabeth’s.
1. Like most hospitals, they have great chicken tenders here. I had them for lunch and they were cooked perfect.
2. I’ve written about this before, but I’m not a huge fan of the Scooters coffee chain. Unfortunately, I’m a coffee whore and it’s my only choice here. I went down at 8:40pm and noticed the cart closed at 8:30pm. Maybe I looked desperate, but the guy was completely awesome and made me an Americano to order. Huge thumbs up to that guy. I tipped everything I had in my pockets and actually wished I had more.
3. For dinner, I went down thinking I was going to get a cheeseburger. The super friendly grill attendant helped talk me into the cheese steak hoagie. Hands down one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. Yes, in a hospital, I had one of the best sandwiches I can remember. It was stuffed full of meat and cheese. I love the da’vincis cheese steak, but it doesn’t have 1/4 of the meat this one had.
I’m here for another 12 hours or so. If I come across something for breakfast, I’ll be sure to update this post
