Wines for Winging It…Really?

Author: Buffmeat  //  Category: Uncategorized

This really isn’t a review, but as a believer in all things Buffalo wings, I was disturbed by syndicated article in the Lincoln Journal Star this week (thankfully a local writer didn’t print this).

It talked about drinking wine with wings.  Are you serious?!?!?  Who in their right mind would think this is a story that thousands, if not millions, of people in syndicated markets would be interested in?

Wine does not go with wings. Period.  I have a friend that is a true wine expert.  He has introduced me to some very affordable wines to have with different foods.  But in the 100 or so times we’ve talked about it, never once did he say, “This one is great with wings.”

The worst part was this author was from Chicago.  Last time I checked, that was still located in the Midwest.  The same Midwest where no meal is anything without a slab of meat.  The same Midwest where you have 1,000 beer selections, but only one choice of vegetable with your meals.

This is not from a writer in LA or NY where this would spawn a surge in restaurants charging $75 for 6 wings on a pretty little plate.   We’re talking the home of the sidewalk hot dogs and deep dish pizza.

Why do people always have to try and mess up a good thing?  Please just leave Beer and Wings alone.  If you missed this article, I’m reluctantly adding it here.

Urban’s Creamery & Grill

I had to go to Hickman this week to work on a web site for a customer.  I’ve lived here almost 15 years and I think this was my first trip to Hickman.

I had my 5 year old with me and after we were done, we wanted to grab a bite to eat.  I was on the corner with a Gas n Shop and Urban’s Restaurant/Car Dealership.

We went in and the cabin like exterior was the exact same inside.  I was really impressed with the place and the waitress (who called the cook mom) took very good care of us.  We ordered up two chocolate milks and a Cheeseburger.  The menu said it was a 1/3 pound, but it was a little small.  What was great though was the grilled kaiser roll that it came on.  To me, that’s what makes a burger.  I can make a good burger at home, but some places can make it GREAT with a simple addition.

Overall it was a great experience.  They serve breakfast and as many of you know, I’ve been in search of a replacement for Kuhl’s.  We will be back to Urban’s.  I may even buy my next car there as well…
