Out of Town,
Unique to Lincoln
I was passed this today and thought I would share it here.
http://www.emergingterrain.org/storedpotential/dinner/
On October 3, 2010 at 2pm, over 500 people will gather at the base of the grain elevator and its temporary giant mural for a dinner of epic proportions. 10 prominent local chefs will prepare and plate a 5-course meal on giant platters brought to your table composed of seasonal, locally farmed ingredients. The site, scale of the event, and quality/presentation of the food will create a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Kevin Shinn from Lincoln’s Bread and Cup will be representing the Capital City. I’m looking for a sitter now, I hope we can attend this event!

Out of Town
We were in Omaha this weekend and headed down to the Old Market for drinks and appetizers. I have my usual favorites, but I’ve never been to the Twisted Fork Bar and Grill (1014 Howard St. Omaha, NE 68102). I think it was the tag line of “American Food with a Cowboy Twist” that drew me in.
I can’t give it a full review based on what I had, but this was too good to not blog about. On the appetizer menu was chicken fried bacon. Yes, it is exactly how it sounds. Cooked bacon that is then fried chicken style. Served with a side of white gravy, this was like nothing I’ve ever had before.
Authors Note: It could be completely unrelated, but the 24 hours after the chicken fried bacon left me completely useless. It was luckily a Sunday, but I had no energy, missed my boot camp class and took 3 naps after a restless night. Buyer beware…

I know a lot of our readers head up to Omaha and ask for a choice up there. A friend pointed me to this blog and they just released their best of. I eat in Omaha quite often, but I must always go to the same place. A lot of these don’t seem familiar to me.

Brew Pub's,
Out of Town
Traveled up the road to Papillion, Nebraska to visit the Nebraska Brewing Company. We have wanted to visit this restaurant for some time now. The restaurant looked like a typical brewpub, flat screen TV’s in the bar, concrete floors, and the brew tanks visible.
We ordered the corn dog meal for our two girls, which were actually turkey dogs, different but healthy. My husband ordered their gourmet mac and cheese, which was made with their Infinite Wit beer and topped with Bread Crumbs and I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich.
The dinner started off with a complementary basket of their homemade potato chips, which were good. When the server brought out our food, he brought me a chicken philly instead. He immediately took it back to bring out the buffalo chicken sandwich that I originally ordered.
While waiting I was able to sample the other food ordered by the table. The turkey corndogs were good but I was not a fan of the mac and cheese. It seemed to be a little heavy on the beer taste, which seemed a little stout and overpowering for the mac and cheese. Once my sandwich arrived I was a little disappointed by the presentation. It was a really small hamburger bun with an oversized flattened piece of breaded chicken and the sauce on top. The sauce had an overpowering taste that I couldn’t put my finger on, it also seemed really think and just sat on the sandwich.
The service was average, atmosphere average and the food below average. Probably won’t be making our way back to the Nebraska Brewing Company.
On other note, we did not try any of the beers that they brew, so maybe they would of made it worthwhile!
