After my last few complaints about nothing on the north side, I have to take it back. After working out at the Fallbrook YMCA, my kids and I made a stop at a restaurant/bar called Toast (570 Fallbrook Blvd, gettoasty.com).
The inside was nicely decorated and had an upbeat soundtrack playing in the background. The specials board caught my eye right away and it forced me to make a decision, Pastrami or Buffalo chicken sandwich. I chose the pastrami and I was very pleased! I didn’t have a camera with me, but this was really a deli style sandwich, marbled bread and spicy mustard (the only thing I left off were onions).
There wasn’t a kids menu per say, but the person taking my order told me they had a kids PB&J with apple sauce. It was a hit with my two kids. I wouldn’t call it a complaint, but I was confused that a drink came with my sandwich and the kids meal, but not chips. I paid the extra $1 for them, but it just wasn’t clear what did or didn’t come with anything.
We finished the meal with a scope of scarlet and cream ice cream from the UNL dairy store!
To me, this is what a locally owned restaurant should offer. Perfect service, great food and a reason to come back. I will gladly pop over to my personal profile page and give this my best of Lincoln sandwich designation!!!
P.S. – They have an agreement with The Mill for coffee as well! I’ll have to go back and check out this place as a coffee shop. Plus they are a full bar!!! I’m very pleased that they are open here on the north side of town.
I was in the mood for a good French Dip the other day and I happen to work around the Misty’s downtown. My logic was, if they supposedly have the best prime rib in Lincoln, wouldn’t the left overs make for a great French Dip the next day?
Unfortunately, that was not the case for my particular sandwich. I love my prime rib rare, and I was hoping the next day it would at least have a little pink left to it. Every slice was just well done beyond recognition on my sandwich. The meat was tough and it made it hard to bite off one solid chunk without bringing everything with it.
Needless to say, it didn’t satisfy my craving, but that wasn’t the worst part. My bill was over $13 for a lunch! Now, like the best golfer in the world I’m willing to pay for a good piece of meat, but this wasn’t even close. It really makes me question the legacy that is Misty’s anymore. Has anyone had a positive experience at the downtown location? Is Havelock any better?
Sorry Misty, you may have been pretty the night before, but you were a wreck the next morning…

I’ve got a family member that needed to stay overnight in the hospital, so I’m here at 11:30pm writing a review about the food I’ve had today here at St. Elizabeth’s.
1. Like most hospitals, they have great chicken tenders here. I had them for lunch and they were cooked perfect.
2. I’ve written about this before, but I’m not a huge fan of the Scooters coffee chain. Unfortunately, I’m a coffee whore and it’s my only choice here. I went down at 8:40pm and noticed the cart closed at 8:30pm. Maybe I looked desperate, but the guy was completely awesome and made me an Americano to order. Huge thumbs up to that guy. I tipped everything I had in my pockets and actually wished I had more.
3. For dinner, I went down thinking I was going to get a cheeseburger. The super friendly grill attendant helped talk me into the cheese steak hoagie. Hands down one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. Yes, in a hospital, I had one of the best sandwiches I can remember. It was stuffed full of meat and cheese. I love the da’vincis cheese steak, but it doesn’t have 1/4 of the meat this one had.
I’m here for another 12 hours or so. If I come across something for breakfast, I’ll be sure to update this post

Yes…. I know that grocery stores carry food to make dinners but the new Hy-Vee on 50th and O Street is one of the best places to get a take out dinners. You can choose from Chinese, Italian, salad bar and the best one (in my opinion) is the sandwich bar. You are able to choose from 4 different kids of sandwiches (Subs and Ciabatta’s) to name a couple. You then get to create your sandwich with up to 3 different meats, 2 different cheeses, and then all of the fixings. I had a Ciabtta with Salami, provolone and dill pickles. The bread was so fresh and soft, it really made the sandwich. The sandwich was under $4.00 and can be paired with chips, cookie, soup and a drink to make a combo meal.
With all of the sandwich shops in town, it is nice to have another option to add to the mix.
